Computer Requirements

Virtually any “modern” PC will easily run the software for the AvoidanceMonitor System but here are specific PC requirements:

  • Type of PC: The software may be run on either desktop or laptop PCs.
  • Minimum Processor Requirements: i5 processors or later.
  • Hard Drive Type/Minimum Hard Drive Capacity: 250GB or larger.
  • Minimum RAM Requirements: Minimum 8 GB.
  • OS: Windows 7 Pro, Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro versions. We STRONGLY recommend the Pro version.
  • Other Hardware requirements (specific ports to connect to hardware, PCIe cards, second network port, etc.):  A RS232 port or, if running two or fewer stations, a USB to RS232 adapter.
  • General PC requirements (certain power mode selected, avoiding auto A/V scans, avoid auto Windows updates, avoid screen savers, etc). We recommend:

NOT doing Windows OS updates during a trial due to the very real possibility that one of these updates could cause a conflict with the back-and-forth between the PC and the BSC with potentially catastrophic consequences.

NOT using programs or apps that do remote status checks of the host PC or the PC network.

NOT using screen savers or power setting controllers that cause the PC to ever pause, sleep or hibernate.

Recommend using uninterrupted power supplies to power the BSC and ideally also the PC.

If there is any chance of RF interference from either other nearby equipment or from the power lines themselves, using the RF choke beads as is well understood will eliminate this problem.
